FIRST EDITION THUS. Large 8vo. 9.5 x 7 inches. 191 pp. Bound in original red cloth, gilt with gilt block on front board, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has a small scrape mark on spine. Minor wear to extremities, but otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by 16 colour plates and by vignettes in text, including head and tailpieces. Decorated by half title and title page vignettes and by publisher's device. Pictorial endpapers. Fourteen well known and lesser known tales of H. C. Andersen (1805-75), especially translated by children's author, Stephen Corrin, with the assistance of two Danish librarians. Selected and illustrated by the artist, Edward Ardizzone (1900-79).
