Bound in half green paper over green and blue patterned boards, in plain slipcase (with black printed title), which is worn and stained; the book itself has some light foxing of front flyleaves, largely to edges, but is otherwise a very good clean copy. It was first published in the Century Magazine, 1897 and revised and enlarged for book publication in various editions. This 1914 edition is reprinted from that in the Life and Light books, issued by G. Bell and Sons of London. William James Stillman (1828-1901) was a US journalist, diplomat and photographer, as well as being an animal lover, who later lived in Surrey. An attractive little reprint of this title.
