A little wear to extremities, slight cracking of front hinge, rear board sunned at edges and some foxing of flyleaves; otherwise a very good copy with clean interior. Illustrated by numerous text figures, many whole page. Decorated by chapter heading and tailpiece vignettes and by initials. Well illustrated history of of the US navy in the the Civil War of 1861-65. First published in 1887, this later edition is distinguished by its vivid front board artwork. Willis John Abbot (1863-1934) was a US journalist, editor and naval historian. He produced similar Blue Jackets title for the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the First World War.
