Item Description

4to. 10 x 7.25 inches. 124 pp. Bound in green cloth spine, over stiff boards, with pictorial printed paper front board. Extremities worn, including edges and corners with sunned spine; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by colour frontispiece and throughout by black and white/monochrome text figures and vignettes, including title page. Undated, but the 1948 edition of Bonzo's Annual, published annually 1935-52, except 1939-46 and previously entitled Bonzo's Laughter Annual. Written and illustrated by George Ernest Studdy (1878-1948) and his successors. The author specialised in children's animal stories, Bonzo being a dog, a very popular character in the heyday of the series. This annual contains material and language that would now be regarded as racialist.
