Large 8vo. 9.75 x 7 inches. 160 pp. Bound in decorated paper-covered boards with black spine title labels, gilt, in unclipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge wear and chips, including head and tail of spine and rear wrapper damage; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 79 black and white and colour photographs, including frontispiece. Copy of the bestselling book, made into a film in 1966, sixth reprint in the first year of publication. It relates the story of a lioness, Elsa (1956-61), raised as an orphan cub (and later released into the wild) by Joy Adamson (1910-80), born as Frederike Victoria Gessner in former Austro-Hungarian Silesia. She went to Kenya in 1937 and married George Adamson (1906-89), senior wildlife warden in 1944.
