4to. 11.75 x 8.75 inches. 109 pp. Bound in original black cloth, gilt, in unclipped pictorial dust wrapper with a few neatly repaired edge tears. A little wear and light sunning of board edges, but otherwise a very good copy. Signature on first free endpaper. Loosely inserted: 2 folding leaflets on 1978 Dada and Surrealism exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, South Bank, London. Illustrated by 20 pages of black and white plates numbered in text and by text figures throughout. Decorated by title and contents pages vignettes. The Dadaist movement in art arose in Switzerland in 1916 among a group of artists and poets, as a reaction to the upheavals of the First World War. This well illustrated survey examines the history of Dadaism in the context of its time and the work of its practitioners, and includes chapters on existentialism, film and music. Following the plates are sections on chronology, a Dada dictionary and a bibliography. Edited by Austrian artist, Willy Verkauf (1917-94) and first published in Switzerland in 1957.
