Notes
An accomplished drawing depicting the view of Dover beach from the cliff tops at Langdon. The cliffs restrict the view, allowing only the western arm of the beach with Shakespeare Cliff beyond, but give a real sense of elevation. Sheep and a donkey graze close to the cliff edge and ships dot the sea.
This drawing was among a small number we purchased from an album of drawings of places scattered throughout England. They had all been carefully mounted on card and exquisitely hand-titled. None of the drawings were signed but the album was identified as the work of E. Gilbertson.
