8vo. 9.25 x 6.75 inches. 259 + [1] pp. Bound in original black cloth, gilt. Minor wear to extremities and slight sunning of spine; otherwise a very good copy. Not issued with dust wrapper. Illustrated by photographs of bronze busts. A history of the brewing industry and science, and of prohibition, in the USA, published in the year that the 1919 prohibition amendment to the constitution was repealed, and jointly authored by John Paul Arnold (1854-1931). It includes a detailed list of breweries up to 1864. At the beginning is the illustrated text of the memorial exercise to mark the achievements of two brewing science pioneers, Dr John Ewald Siebel (1845-1919) and Anton Schwarz (1839-1895). This section includes biographical accounts and bibliographies of their writings. A scarce copy of this privately published limited edition, apparently never reprinted.
