Signed by author on title page. Illustrated throughout in colour and black and white, including maps and facsimiles. Decorated by title page design and publisher's device. The wartime experiences of John Simpson (1917-2006) from Nottingham, who joined the Royal Army Service Corps and served in Kent before he sailed to Singapore, becoming a prisoner of war after the city's surrender to the Japanese. He survived work on the Burma-Thailand Railway and the sinking of a Japanese vessel taking him to forced labour in Japan itself He was eventually repatriated back to Nottingham, where he worked as a trolleybus conductor. A very well illustrated and presented account.
