Large 8vo. 10 x 6.5 inches. xvi + 230 + [1] pp. Bound in original pictorial cloth with black titles, spine rebacked preserving original. Rough cut page edges. Boards darkened with some detail rubbed away on front board and edges bumped. A little foxing of preliminary pages, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by portrait frontispiece protected by tissue guard, by 24 black and white photographic plates and by genealogical table. An early non-fiction work by Vita Sackville West (1892-1962), author and designer of Sissinghurat Castle Garden. A history of her ancestral home, Knole in West Kent, it includes a chronological table of the Sackvilles, Earls of Dorset and their predecessors, from 1456 to 1815. A 1923 reprint of the first edition of 1922.
