8vo. 7 x 4.5 inches. x + [ii] + 327 + [2] pp. + 32 pp. publisher's list. Bound in original blue cloth, gilt, with blind stamped decorative borders on boards. Binder's label of Edmonds and Remnants, London and bookseller's label of Folthorp, North Street, Brighton. Rough cut fore edge. Extremities worn, spine darkened and hinges and front joint starting to crack; otherwise a very good copy. 1953 and 1961 inscriptions with some deletions, on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 4 engraved plate, including frontispiece and by two engraved text figures. Observations on the fauna and flora of the countryside, a sequel to the author's Gleanings in Natural History (1832-34). Edward Jesse (1786-1868) was a a government clerk from 1798 and held various minor offices until he retired as surveyor of the royal parks and palaces. His edition of the Natural History of Selborne by Gilbert White, was published, 1851. Preface dated May 1853.
