12mo. 7 x 4.75 inches. x + 271 pp. Bound in original red cloth, with black titles and publisher's device on spine and blind stamped borders and device on front board. Extremities worn and sunned with corners bumped. A little scattered foxing and brown stain at top of last few pages extending on to flyleaves; otherwise a very good copy. Partly reprinted from The Cornhill Magazine, the first edition of the book being 1909. The first volume of a three part autobiography covering the author's career as a parliamentary and political journalist and contributor to Punch, The Observer and The Strand Magazine and many other periodicals. His parliamentary diaries covering the period 1885-1905 are an important source for historians. Sir Henry William Lucy (1845-1924) later lived in Hythe, Kent and his country house, Whitethorn, was renamed Lucy's and the location became Lucy's Hill.
