8vo. 8.5 x 5.75 inches. xv + [1] + 913 + [1] pp. + [1] pp. colophon. Bound in original blue cloth, with blind stamped decorations on boards and black titles, in price clipped dust wrapper which has edge wear and chips neatly repaired and small missing sections. Some wear to board extremities, including head and tail of spine, but otherwise a very good copy. Musical notations. Decorated by title page vignette. Songs of Praise was first published as a less High Church alternative to the English Hymnal of 1906, although both were edited by Percy Dearmer (1867-1936), Anglican priest, liturgist and Christian Socialist, and by Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) composer and music historian. The other music editor was Martin Shaw (1875-1950), composer and conductor. The Full Music Edition of Songs of Praise was first published in 1926 and in Revised and Enlarged form in 1932. This compilation reflects the folkloric scholarship of its editors and now included for the first time the verses of Morning Has Broken, written by Eleanor Farjeon, set to the traditional Scottish Gaelic tune, Bunessan.
