8vo, in fours. 7.5 x 5 inches. xi + [i] + 138 pp. Bound in original red cloth, gilt, boards with blind stamped borders enclosing arms on front. A little wear to extremities, including chip at head of spine, which is sunned. Browning of flyleaves, but otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by 8 black and white plates, including frontispiece and maps, and by three engraved text figures. The 1784-85 journal of a young member of the Strother family of York, who was sent to Hull, apparently as an apprentice to a draper. It includes notes on the word and family of Strother by the editor and the Strother pedigree at the end. Edited by Caesar Caine (1856-1922), who was Vicar of Cleator, Cumberland, 1910-22 (Cleator Moor(Little Ireland) website).
