Illustrated by frontispiece sketch, dedication page vignette and spoof advertisement pages at end. A humorous fantasy novel set in an alternative version of Reading. The Nursery Crime Division, featuring DCI Jack Spratt and Detective Sergeant Mary Mary, investigate the death of Humpty Dumpty, after having apparently fallen off a wall. The first title in the Nursery Crime series of novelist, Jasper Fforde, (b.1961), the author reworked it from his first version of 1994, entitled Who Killed Humpty Dumpty?, which was rejected by publishers.
