Synopsis

And administration of the sacraments, and other rites and ceremonies of the church, according to the use of the church of england: together with the psalter or psalms of david, pointed as they are to be sung or said in churches. Common Prayer unpaginated but [324] pp. Text in double columns within red rules; Table, [2] + 14 pp. Text within red and black rules; Private Devotions, [2] + 375-472 +6 pp. + [2] pp. publisher's advertisements. Text within red rules. Bound in early black sharkskin with silver clasps and corners; spine in compartments with raised bands. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Small splits at head and tail of spine and some wear to gilt of edges; otherwise a very good copy. Early signature on second free endpaper. Decorated with Royal Arms and title page and headpiece vignettes and by red rules on title pages. This handsomely bound Prayer Book of 1709 includes the Forms of Prayer and Thanksgiving for 5 November (Gunpowder Treason), 30 January (King Charles the Martyr), 29 May (The Kings Restoration) and the Eighth Day of March (the accession of Queen Anne ). The use of these additional services is authorised by the included declarations of Queens Mary II (Maria), 1692 and Anne, 1704. This edition is unusual in containing bound in, the additional two texts of the Tables to All the Epistles and Gospels of 1690 and The Private Devotions for all Occasions. This appears to have been part of a longer work entitled The Whole Duty of Man, attributed to Richard Allestree (1619-81), where it has a separate title page as here. The earliest dated edition in Library Hub is that of 1696. (Prayer Book similar to Griffiths, 1709, nos. 6 and 7, p.139). A handsomely bound copy of this scarce combination of the three texts.
