8vo. 8.75 x 5.75 inches. vi + [ii] + 261 pp. Errata slip tipped in. Bound in original Grey cloth, gilt, with gilt borders on front boards, enclosing gilt initial. Top edge gilt, others rough cut. Extremities worn, including head and tail of spine, which is sunned. Hinges starting to crack and flyleaves browned. Occasional scattered foxing, but otherwise a very good copy. 1910 signature on front pastedown. Illustrated by portrait frontispiece and by 16 black and white portrait plates. The diary kept 1793-1815 of Sylvester Douglas, 1st Baron Glenervie of the Irish peerage, lawyer and politician. Of Scottish descent, he was Chief Secretary for Ireland, 1793-94 and held various government offices, 1801-14. He sat as a British MP for several different constituencies, 1795-1806. Edited by Walter Sydney Sichel (1855-1933), lawyer and biographer.
