Very good copies; slip case has some edge wear. Both volumes have 2003 gift inscriptions from author on title pages; Volume I has additional ownership inscriptions. Illustrated throughout in black and white, including frontispieces, photographs and maps. Decorated by title page vignettes. Well illustrated account of the changes in island life since industry arrived in the early nineteenth century, by Eve Hostettler, historian of the island.
