TWO VOLUMES. FIRST EDITION THUS. 8vo. 8.5 x 5.5 inches. Vol. I, [ii] + 377 pp., Vol. II, viii + 364 pp. Dedication and Preface in Vol. II. Binder may have omitted half titles. Bound in contemporary half brown buckram over marbled boards, spine in compartments with gilt bands and titles. Extremities worn, including corners and head and Tail of spine and scattered foxing throughout; otherwise a very good set with a little age related wear. Early signatures on title pages, later on first free endpapers and small stamp on last free endpaper of Vol. II. The first Paris edition of Nicholas Nickleby, printed in 1839, the same year as the first edition in England. An edition in the Collection of Ancient and Modern British Literature in Baudry's European Library, founded after 1815. It continued its work of publishing overseas British editions until the Copyright Act of 1851 (WorldPress Baudry's European Library PaperbackRevolution website).
