An ugly old maid kneeling at a desk in prayer. a man peeps in on her through a gap in the rafters. signs read, "love in a village", "cupids revenge" on the door and wall.
Item Description
10.5 x 7 inches. Monochrome etching on paper, some staining otherwise good condition. Publisher of popular prints and satires, and pharmacist. Usually referred to as Davison of Alnwick. In the period between 1812 and 1817, Davison produced a number of caricatures, amusing if somewhat crudely executed plates often based on better known prints. In later life he appears to have worked primarily as a pharmacist and druggist, and was recorded as a chemist and bookbinder on the 1851 census.
