8vo. 8 x 6.25 inches. 143 + [3] pp. Bound in green cloth, with gilt and black titles, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has small missing sections at head and tail of spine. Flyleaves browned, but otherwise a very good copy. 1929 and 1933 gift inscriptions on half title. Illustrated by 36 plates, paginated in text, including frontispiece and by text figures. Pictorial endpapers with map at rear. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. A guide to villages and churches in the West Sussex countryside, which were described by Michael Fairless, pseudonym of Margaret Fairless Barber (1869-1901). The Roadmender (1902), her book of Christian meditations, became a popular classic. Illustrated by landscape artist, Duncan Moul, who produced work, 1904-24 Title first published 1922.
